Albufeira
is a popular resort with endless sandy beaches and coves. Extending east and
west from the town, there are six principal beaches offering a variety of watersports.
Famous for its excellent golf courses, this area also offers many historical attractions with archaeological sites dating back to Roman Times and churches and museums with fine examples of Moorish architecture.
The temperate climate makes it a good place to visit at any time of the year.
Offering quick and easy access, Albufeira is just over three hours flying time from the UK, and just a thirty minute journey from Faro Airport which is served by a number of low cost airlines offering regular flights throughout the year. Airport transfers offer you the choice of bus, taxi or you can hire a car or book a private transfer to your holiday destination. Because this is such a beautiful area to explore, it is worth giving serious consideration to hiring your own transport, especially as the airport companies offer a selection of vehicles at very competitive prices.
This former fishing village now has over 15,000 permanent residents and numerous property owners which rent out villas and apartments for self catering holidays during the holiday season. There is an excellent range of hotels to suit all budgets ranging from those with their own entertainment team guaranteed to keep all members of the family entertained, to those with a more traditional feel surrounded by lush subtropical grounds which offer total relaxation, peace and tranquility. There is also a campsite with a huge open air restaurant and live music every night during the summer months.
As the sun sets the historic centre of Albufeira changes into an area filled with lively, bars, restaurants and clubs. Fish and shellfish feature heavily in the gastronomy of the region. They are freshly caught and you can see the sea bass, John Dory, sardines, mackerel and shellfish being brought into the fishing port and sold to the restaurateurs ready for dinner that evening.
If you are here with your family then there are a number of theme parks, a zoo, go karting and other entertainment which provides a good day out. If you prefer a quieter time, then just a short drive will transport you to several traditional villages surrounded by beautiful countryside with rolling hills covered with almond and orange groves.
